MY 6 FAVOURITE PLACES TO EAT IN AMSTERDAM

I get a request for this post PRETTY often and even though I should have done it a while ago, I wanted to wait until I polished my ultimate top 6 favourite list. Lets be real though, there are a lot of good places to eat in the city, but If I make a list of 10-20, I might end up diluting my favourites. Also, I want to make it clear that this is MY list of favourites, meaning that I wanted to share what I LOVE, so this is definitely NOT a Yelp or Forsquare guide.

Now that we got that out of the way, lets dig in to the good stuff shall we?. I have been going to a few of these places for years, some of them are more recent as they only opened a couple of years ago, but ever since I discovered them, I just cant stop going there.

Without further ado, here are my TOP 6 FAVOURITE PLACES TO EAT IN AMSTERDAM;

LOS PILONES: (Best Mexican)

I might be biased, since I am Mexican and I truly believe we have one of the best cuisines in the world, but Los Pilones is definitely the most authentic Mexican restaurant in the city. I have been going there for years and every time someone is visiting me, I always take them there. You can expect delicious Mexican food, amazing margaritas and a super vibrant atmosphere. If you are in doubt of what to order, one of my favourite things on the menu are the “Chicken Alambres” and the “Cochinita Pibil”, YUM!

Address; Kerkstraat 59/63, 1017 GC  AND  Geldersekade 111, 1011 in Amsterdam.

KAIKO: (Best Sushi)

I am a huge sushi fan and I found this tiny Japanese restaurant out of complete chance, deep in the South side neighbourhood of the city. Lucky me, it has been some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. This place is pretty modest in its interior and it’s super authentic. They have ONE sushi chef, and whenever you are there, expect to see mostly Japanese business men which is a pretty good sign I’ve heard. Don’t expect to find elaborate and extravagant sushi roll combinations though, this place has the real deal, the simple stuff, the good stuff!.

Address: Jekerstraat 114, 1078 MJ Amsterdam.

VIET VIEW: (Best Vietnamese)

I could literally eat here EVERY WEEK, actually, I sometimes do. This Vietnamese spot is located inside the Foodhallen in Amsterdam (think of it as the Amsterdam version of the Chelsea Market in NYC). I have been to Vietnam already and their rice paper rolls and Banh Mi’s  are definitely up to standards with the ones I ate in Vietnam. My ULTIMATE FAVOURITE order is their “Sapa Pork” rice paper roll and their “Caramelised Pork Belly” Banh Mi.

Address: Hannie Dankbaarpassage 16, 1053 RT Amsterdam.

BAKERS & ROASTERS: (Best Brunch)

This place has steadily been my favourite brunch place (along with Dignita) for a while now, the only issue is that it’s becoming increasingly popular, therefor its a bit hard to get a table without having to wait for ages. They state that they are a New Zealand Style cafe with a heavy dose of Brazil. Food here is a delicious fusion and you can find everything from pancakes, to eggs Benedict made their way and their take on Huevos Rancheros. As well as other more healthy options, great coffee and delicious brunch cocktails.

Address: Eerste Jacob van Campenstraat 54, 1072 BH Amsterdam.

DIGNITA: (Best Brunch part 2)

I discovered the first Dignita location while walking around my neighbourhood about two years ago. I was immediately impressed and as a good creature of habit that I am, I tried my favourite dish of theirs and have been ordering that ever since. They have a lot of amazingness on their menu tho, including delicious pastries, although I tend to stay away from those out of my shitty lactose intolerance. They opened a second location on the East side of the city about a year ago and its bigger and an even cooler location, so I suggest you visit that one -as its a bit easier to find space to sit-. I always order the “Hot Smoked Salmon Royale” and their “Blueberry & Lemoncurd Pancake Stack”.

Addresses: Koninginneweg 218h, 1075 EL  AND Nieuwe Herengracht 18a, 1018 DP Amsterdam.

VLAAMS FRITESHUIS VLEMINCKX: (Best Belgian Style Fries in the City)

You might think it’s silly to dedicate one full mention to fries, but believe me, it’s WORTH IT. I have heard a lot of fuss about this place and every time I would walk past it in the past few years, there was a line (a big one). It was only a few months ago that my boyfriend and I decided to line up and see what all the fuss was about. I can only say, they are definitely some of the best Belgian style fries I have ever had, not to mention that they have the best sauces/toppings. IF you are ever in Amsterdam, please DO.NOT.MISS this spot. My usual order is the “Medium Fries with Ketchup and fresh Sambal sauce”. Its just way too good.

Address: Voetboogstraat 33 1012 XK Amsterdam

BON APETIT!!!
