I was recently asked in a few interviews about how the blogosphere has become so competitive and how bloggers are now competition to each other…My view on this is very simple and I thought that instead of only answering this question on an interview, I should share this with you as well.
Think of a blog as a TV series. I personally binge watch series on Netflix and HBO as much as I binge on reading my favorite blogs on bloglovin. EVERY DAY. No, Orange is the New Black doesn’t make me love Game Of Thrones any less because its a different series, I watch them both equally excited. Or how about House Of Cards? Have you watched it? Completely different concept, still nail biting and amazing in its own way. Well, thats how I see blogs.Sure, some TV series are more viewed that others, same with blogs but the fact that you love watching one, doesn’t mean that you wont watch the other. You will watch both and probably make a Saturday of staying in pajamas, eating takeout and not leaving the couch.
There is a market for everything, everyone has different taste and freedom to consume any content they want, whether it’s online or on television. So no, I don’t think bloggers are competing against each other, we just cater to different audiences and its up to us to create the best possible content for you to keep coming back.

I totally agree with you!

So true! Why does everything always have to boil down to competition all the time? Love this post

I think this “competition” should be read in terms of followers, brands engagements, shooting…
Nowadays a lot of bloggers employ a standard language (sometimes boring and artificial!) to catcht the audience’s attention in order to emerge quickly in the blogosphere. Then: which added value do this “studied” bloggers give us? Nothing.
Andy, I think you are still spontaneous and original, a source of inspiration. Do not change and feel free to be who you are!
Well said! If I ever get interviewed in the future, I’ll share your thoughts =)
love this, andy! great post!

I agree with in 100%!
I visit so many different bloggers in bloglovin too and they have different themes, the girls have different styles, differents ways to express what they want to show!
It is a blogosphere!!! It is a new world… kind perfect new world to inspire who want to!
This is very true, I don’t stop reading one blog just cause I found another blog to read. I love all the blogs I follow for the style and content they provide.

This is very truth and you while having a very succesfull blog it´s very nice to see that you´re still humble.
Love you.
Wonderfully said. I’ve never heard anyone put it so eloquently but it’s a fantastic way of seeing the blogging landscape. Refreshing actually.

Totally agree with you Andy! I feel people need to remember why they blog. If you take it as a competition, I can’t imagine you’d love doing what you do!
http://thetallandshortblog.blogspot.com
Love this comparison! Way to keep things positive Andy :) A lot of bloggers make it feel like this is a competition, which for me takes out the fun completely. So I have to think a little more like you I guess!
xoxo Iris
Agreed!!
Such lovely words! I totally agree with you. :)
Andy I think you’re right, sometimes if we don’t see it, we could think that this is like a competition in which everyone has to show that it’s the best, but I think this is a mistake, I think everyone are here because we love fashion & we want to share our perspective and the face of fashion that we like. I think this is a great topic to talk about, I really like it :D

Very well said Andy! I love to catch up on all my favorite bloggers weekly, sometimes daily. I don’t see competition because if it takes me 5hrs to catch up on all my favorite bloggers posts, trustme, I will make time for it. I don’t stop reading any of my favorites just because there is a new popular blog. I’ve been reading your blog for the last 5 years.
So well said!

Ohh and I’m a little bit addicted to Orange is the new black!! X
Awesome analogy! We crave different content to suit our every mood. That goes for television, blogs, and all forms of entertainment. As long as the content is authentic, it will attract an audience who can relate.

Love this post and totally agree with you. Every blog has its audience, some of course have more views than others, but the point is to do something your readers enjoy, everyone has different tastes!
I read and love tons of blogs, as well as series by the way! :)
I love this analogy – describes blogging quite well even if I don’t watch tv shows on Netflix or the like. However, there is never a day that goes by that I don’t read a post from one of my favorite bloggers. Have a wonderful weekend.
That seems like the perfect way of explaining it! I totally go to different blogs expecting different things.
love this look on blogs!

Amazing post again Andy!
I really like the analogy. There are as many different blogs as there are many different kind of public. That’s what make this hole thing awesome.

Babe, I totally agree with you. Everyone has different taste, that’s what make the world so diverse. You can love many blogs at the same time:) XO

I feel like this really addresses the biggest thing I personally deal with. I’ve been blogging for a year and a half and have a small following (less than 100) and I think it’s fine. I get a lot of interaction with the followers I do have and have made friends. I want to be recognized for my style and I want to interact with readers. I want to gain a larger following, but I have to remember that it isn’t a competition. We all cater to different people.

Very well said Andy! I’m new to your blog and find your posts very insightful. Love your vivid sense of fashion and will definitely keep coming back to stay inspired.
That’s a great way to look at it!

I couldn’t agree more. I don’t see other bloggers as my competition, except when literally competing for a giveaway or something. I am a relatively new blogger but I have found other bloggers to all be very supportive.
http://www.lookfortheoccasion.com
can’t agree more!
Totally agree with what you said. I don’t think bloggers are even competing with each other at all! And it shouldn’t even be a competition. We’re all doing what we love and it should stay that way. There’s absolutely no need to one-up each other. If anything, we should all be helping each other out. We’re practically one giant family!

wonderfully written! :)
I love this post!
As a new blogger, I always worry that there’s no room in the ‘market’ for my blog thanks to the more established blogs, but then seeing my pageviews and followers growing by the week shows me that perhaps people do care what I have to say, and that there’s room for everyone to express themselves via blogging/vlogging/social media.
Everyone is always so obsessed with the idea of competition and being better than everyone else, which is understandable but also quite sad, because surely you should blog for the enjoyment of it?
xo
Totally agree!! I have ‘favourites’ I like to read but not one in particular xx
